Doran Beach Regional Park is the best, especially with children. A good beach to play in the sand and water, no rip tides like many other locations, the surf is fairly calm. Easy access and one of the parking lots has a restroom, very handy with the kiddos. Get there early, it can fill up, especially on the weekends and holidays.

My friend responded "Dogs are not allowed at the Head but you could Goggle California State Parks and go to Sonoma Coast State Beaches to find beaches friendly to dogs. Doran Beach allows dogs on a leash. Dillon Beach in Marin County is a good one... They can run free. Hope this helps.
