You can see this site in an hour or less. It depends on where you live as to whether this is a day trip or not. Scott's Bluff is close by and is very interesting.
Are pets allowed? We will be traveling and will have our pup with us, what is the best way to view the area if no pets allowed?

Highly likely pets are allowed, in the parking lot and leashes on the grounds. I did not see any signs prohibiting pets. I did see rattlesnake warning signs.
Unfortunately, the path from the Visitor Center to the rock is a dangerous one thanks to rattlesnakes and other hazards. We recommend visitors not make that journey.
