We are currently in. Canyon de Chilly on our way to Monument Valley and cant decide whether its worth the fifty mile deour to go to The Hubbell Trading Post. We're interested in buying a rug but the reviews say that the prices at Hubbell are now very high so is it really worth the detour?

It is definitely worth the trip for premier authentic Navajo rugs and American Indian art. A great historical stop too. There are new exhibits in the visitor center and a tour of the Hubbell home is a must. The post supports hundreds of artists young and old. It is run by a a nonprofit whose mission is to keep it an active living trading post. You do save on sales tax. Prices on rugs vary widely but the prices are fair to both the artists and buyer for the amount of time and effort it takes to make a handwoven rug. Visitors do have differing feeling about what is affordable and not that you see in reviews. I say come check it out and leave your own review. 50 miles on the Rez is a hop, skip and jump anyway.
