This enormous lake, 42 km long, more than 300m deep, receives its water from the slopes of two nearby voicanos (Osorno 2650m and Calbuco 2000m). These volcanos are near and the lake is only at 70m ab…Full review by Robert O

Like many things on holiday, the scene across the lake is weather dependant. I got some fabulous shots across to the two volcanoes on a beautiful sunny day plus a sunset view with a pink/peach sky. …Full review by Diane R

The part closer to Puerto Varas Llanquihue, and Frutillar is not recommended for swimming. I would suggest you go on the east and north-est part of the lake for a cleaner experience. Though it's a …Full review by Polo M
If we arrive at Puerto Varas by air (and do not want to rent a car), are there tour boats and/or tour buses that offer excursions around the lake and other points of interest? Thanks, Jennifer

Yes, most of the hotels can suggest you different tours. They pick you up from your hotel. Pto. Varas is not that big. Most restaurants are in walking distance.
How do we drive from our hotel Gran Hotel Colonos Del Sur to Lago Llanquihue and surrounding towns than back to the Hotel

Dear Phil, It is a very entertaining travel and with a very good road in its entirety to do the full circuit around the Lake. Visit the waterfront tourist House in Puerto Varas and ask for any map that will be very useful for your trip. I recommend you to leave Puerto Varas northward and enter the next town called Llanquihue (same name as the lake). Look for the waterfront and continue along the Lake in the direction of Peninsula Punta Larga and Frutillar. This very charming city is divided in a touristic area at the shore of the lake and then you have to go to the upper side to take the road to Puerto Octay (north). All along the road there are good signs as guide. After visiting Puerto Octay another small city founded by the settlers, you must continue down the road to Osorno. About five kilometers to the north, you will find a detour from the road to the right and a sign that says Las Cascadas and Volcan Osorno. This paved road also will take you direct to the volcano and Ensenada. In Ensenada you may deviate to the left to go visit the Saltos de Petrohue and Todos Los Santos Lake or if you like to go back to Puerto Varas you turn to the right. It is not so difficult. I hope to have been able to help with a grain of sand so that you can enjoy your trip. Good luck.
