Yes you can still hike, lots of water, nice hat, start early morning 7AM. The Cave is a cool spot to take a break. Enjoy watching the Buffalo

Traveling with 4 kids (ages 1, 3, 5, 7) in early August. Is this worth a stop as it is on the way from Palo Duro Canyon to Houston? Not planning on doing any hiking as all the hikes looked long for my kids' ages but just wondering if worth it to drive and stop at the scenic lookouts along the road. It's the last day of a 3 week national parks roadtrip - kids are all well traveled.

We were told CapRock is Palo Duro’s smaller cousin but with free range Buffalo. If its the views you are wanting to see them no need to go to CapRock but if your kids will enjoy seeing Buffalo them it’s worth the drive down.

Are dogs allowed in the campground and on the trails?

Dogs on leashes were on the trail. Also around campgrounds, yet be careful when in Prairie Dog town or around the bison herd.
