Lots to see for a small museum. Very reasonably priced for a family to have a couple hours of learning and fun. Our kids (10,8, and 5) had a great time with the scavenger hunt. Grandparents came alon…Full review by Extraordinary448985

Have you labeled the spontoon? It was a tool carried by official travelers during the time of Lewis and Clark. They carried spontoons. They didn't need reloading and could be mounted on a shaft when the need arose. Last time I was there, it was the only criticism I could make of the museum. So, google spontoon images and get your label on the spontoon if you haven't.

Ya, Marge, this is something anyone can do. I found an old fashioned ice fishing spud- long chisel to make fishing holes in a frozen lake in the Ueno National Museum in Tokyo. It was unlabeled, but provenance to the northernmost of the chain of islands called Japan which has fresh water lakes like us. They asked "What is this? Unknown." When I wrote a note saying this was found in every old-timers garage corner to get food from the lake, dig a hole in the ice...no one wanted to take my note, guard, clerk or attendant. So, it does matter who you are. But in your heart, you will know it is a spontoon.
