They were wonderful. We found one sole whale that they went out of their way to follow for us. The wind chill is freezing on your face when the boat is at top speed.Full review by Renee F

San Juan Island (90 miles north of Seattle) is the best place for orca whale watching as we are located in the heart of Salish Sea. Orca whales range through the San Juan Islands the most between May and October when the Salmon runs are strongest, although we do have sightings throughout the year. You can expect to see Orca Whales on the vast majority of our tours from around mid May through mid October and to a lesser extent in March, April and late October. Faster boats, flexible trip duration, and our departure location help ensure that our sightings are as high as, or higher than, any company in the area. Also, keep in mind that the Orca whales we see do travel completely out of the area, out to the Pacific Ocean, from time to time throughout the season and that every year is different depending upon what is happening in the ecosystem. We also regularly see Humpback Whales and Minke Whales.

Hey ReenBeanAZ! Peak season for whales is considered mid-May through mid October. September is a wonderful time to be on the island. We start to get lots of migratory species coming in the area and whales are around. Keep in mind that even in peak season they aren't here 100% of the time. They are always on the move and have to be sighted each day. Starting from San Juan Island puts you in the middle of some of the most frequently traversed areas for whales. We have two different eco - types of Killer whales, Humpbacks whales, Minke Whales, Porpoises, Sea lions, seals, Bald Eagles, a variety of seabirds and lots of other wonderful wildlife.

There is an excellent restaurant on the west end of the island called Roche Harbor. It is on the water, has excellent food and has a very moving ceremony by the resort's color guard in which they retire the colors of Great Britain, Canada, Washington state and the US. It may well be out of the question due to ferry schedules, but would be one to keep in mind for the future. I'd give Anacortes a shot on your GPS. We didn't stop the last several years, so I'm not able to give any first hand accounts.
