It's approx 20 feet below the surface. And the group we went with had kids of a similar age on it. 9 should be plenty old.

Going under the water your ears have pressure and must clear pressure as you would if you swim or in an airplane. You aren't in very deep water. The company is very knowledgeable are very helpful. I totally enjoyed my trip under the ocean.
