One of the best gardens I have seen in Japan. We went in May and expected to see more spring flowers than we did. They were a little early this year. Some Irises were out. But the spring growth on … Full review by ZN9999

I highly recommend the visit to the villa. We went on an English-speaking tour (the only way available), which was rather intimate - only 12 people at the entire villa, huge contrast to all the other… Full review by Katya T
Two of us will be arriving by ship to Kobe at 10:00 a.m. on August 16. We want to take a train to Kyoto and hopefully visit these exquisite gardens. Hopefully we are not too late in asking, but will you allow 2 more people in that day?

The gardens are in the suburbs of Kyoto. It took us approx 45 minutes each way on train and local bus from downtown Kyoto and 15 minute walk. They do allow walkins and will take you if they have space but there are only 1 or 2 English tours per day. I cant remember the times but the website explains. The tour takes a little over an hour.

My friends in Tokyo tell me that yes , you can go without a booking ( as mentioned by Gumer Q's response ) , but still recommend booking in case the day you go is full . It is quite a distance to go and miss out . If you are going by car , there is plenty of parking ( free ) there .
