Maur is a municipality in the district of Uster in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. Maur is first mentioned between 874-887 as de Mure. Maur has an area of 14.8 km². Of this area, 52.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 26.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 20.2% is settled and the remainder is non-productive. In 1996 housing and buildings made up 14.9% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest. Of the total unproductive area, water made up 0% of the area. As of 2007 17% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction.
