Ferries do run from St. Thomas directly to VG on Tuesday and Saturday. There are ferry schedules online - if you just put VINOW in the search bar you can see them there. I would suggest calling ahead first; some of the ferry schedules listed are not accurate because these islands are still recovering from Irma.
