My favourite trail of the trip! Franey trail takes you through a beautiful mixed wood forest with a variety of understory species. The trail itself is a constant yet graduate incline which gets a lit…Full review by Khop1999

Our family (with kids 14 & 12) hiked this trail in mid-July on a beautiful sunny day. We knew from our friends that its a little over 7+ km's round trip, but we didn't expect it to be as challenging…Full review by MattJoelMills
hi, we are travelling to cape breton this july 2016 i understand the franey trail has two routes?.. could you expand on this please? how long does it take?? how difficult? we are quite inexperienced hikers but fairly fit in our late 40's.... would appreciate any input you might have. i understand that there are 2 summits? the red chair and one after that, what is the time difference between them please ---------- Another question would be Franey Mount Hike or Cape Smokey???? if you have been on both... we are not sure if we should hike franey mountain or cape smokey we only have time for 1 unfortunately... do you have any suggestions? which view at the top is most spectacular? thankyou soo much sharon

HI, Franey is very steep, not a long hike up maybe an hour or less with great views at the top. I dont recall 2 trails to take up, we hiked up the main trail and then took a very rocky riverbed type trail down because it was a shorter decent. You could not take this trail up because it is too rocky. I have not hiked smokey. My favourite trail is the Skyline, on the other side of the Cabot Trail. I would recommend this trail over Franey, it is longer but a much easier walk with lots of wildlife sightings, at the end there is a board walk with benches and a beautiful ocean view with mountains to the left.
