The public entry village you can go to, but if you want to meet actual local people in local villages you absolutely need a guide. I recommend the home stay for a totally unique experience. Home cooking, traditional houses, and your guide can help translate for some wonderful interactions. If you go with Hill tribe, the guide is superb at figuring out what you are interested in. It’s a more rugged experience but definitely a trip highlight. I tried betel nut, gave water buffaloes salt water and walked to a village spirit house. Those were activities that the guide figured out we would like.
Has anyone had any stomach issues whilst doing the tour. Any recommendations for quick relief if so? We are from England so tend to always end up with some sort of stomach problem whilst travelling just dont want to pay and not enjoy due to stomach upsets.

No issues with our family of 5! We only did the day tour but our lunch was fresh and delicious!!

We didn't have any "Holiday" vaccinations just made sure our regular ones were up to date and wore lots of bug spray. Just stay away from stagnant water as that's a breeding …
