The website states: "We ask visitors to leave their coats and bags in the reception area in the basement and to turn off mobile phones." I'm fairly sure that I carried my handbag round the house with me. I think they really mean things like rucksacks. The area is very secure as the public have to be admitted / access is controlled - they cannot just wander in. There were no other people in the house during our visit.

Hi Sylvia Unfortunately there is no step-free or wheelchair access to or in the Sambourne house. You might like to look at their website and contact them about the matter. It is a great pity since it was one of my London highlights. But look at Leighton House as well - that may have wheelchair access. Neither place, from memory, has a cafe. All the best Marilyn
