Hi there, you can rent bikes (both touring bikes or well-equiped mountain bikes) either in Bariloche, Villa la Angostura or San Martín de los Andes. Unfortunately, there is no shoulder on the road and there's a lot of traffic, particularly during the summer, so you must be extra careful! Bear in mind that the road from San Martín to Villa la Angostura (or viceversa, the 7 Lakes), is almost 110km long. 90 extra km if you start or end in Bariloche. What most people do is camp in the middle, at least one night. I suggest you look up some renting alternatives that allow to drop the bikes in a different location in advance. I know it's done but don't have the info handy. Good luck and I hope you enjoy our amazing Patagonia :)
