SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - It’s day eight of Black History Month, and here’s your Black history fact of the day. Feb. 8, 1986 Debi Thomas became the first African American woman to win a figure skating championship. Thomas was a Pre-med student at Stanford University. She won the 1986 world championship for figure skating.
