The First Alert Weather Team is forecasting a freeze Thursday night, and local shelter are responding accordingly.

Sarasota and Charlotte Counties both announced they will open cold weather shelters Thursday night. Sarasota County Emergency Management officials have coordinated with municipal and community partners to provide cold weather shelter for those individuals in need due to the predicted drop in temperatures.

The homeless population has been informed via in-person communication and via text. For those who need more information on cold night shelter planning, call the Big Bend Continuum of Care.

Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s Thursday night into Friday morning in parts of the Channel 9 viewing area.

Westminster’s emergency cold weather shelter will be open until noon Thursday in response to extreme temperatures.

The shelter will open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. at the Quincy Recreation Center, located at 122 N Graves Street, on both days, according to the city of Quincy.
