In the Group A ICC Champions Trophy opening match, New Zealand claimed victory against Pakistan by 60 runs. This victory was propelled by the efforts of Tom Latham and Will Young; they contributed a century each in Karachi.

The last time India faced Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy was in the final of the 2017 edition. Pakistan won the contest by 180 runs to clinch their maiden Champions Trophy title.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over if their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
