The phonetic hieroglyph alphabet is the closest version to our modern English alphabet. It is not exactly the same because the ancient Egyptians ... phrases from the 'Book of the Dead'.

I certainly did not have any idea that it might be alphabetic symbols and that this would be pushing back our recognition of the alphabet ... a book about the diffusion of ancient Egyptian objects ...
