PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Oregon Zoo’s baby elephant officially has a name. Keepers say Tula-Tu is doing well and growing fast. They’ve also confirmed she is a girl.

Shine is one of two other adult elephants at the Oregon Zoo, the third being a Borneo elephant named Chendra, who in 2019 suffered a miscarriage early during her pregnancy. At 42 years old, Shine is the oldest member of the herd (Rose-Tu is 30, and Chendra is 31.)
The Oregon Zoo welcomes a new baby elephant
The Oregon Zoo in Portland has welcomed a new baby elephant. Thirty-year-old Asian elephant Rose-Tu gave birth at the zoo last weekend after 20 months of pregnancy to a calf estimated to be 200 pounds.
