All over Britain, shopping centres are closing down. Can these retail paradises be replaced by new public spaces?

The fiasco pretty much sums up my overall experience of walking around a shopping centre that fed-up shoppers have been calling a "ghost mall" and ... cold", "empty", "dead" and "very disappointing".
