Grey’s Anatomy just keeps going with a renewal for a 22nd season. The pickup is extending the show’s record as the longest-running primetime medical drama and the longest-running ABC primetime scripted series.

Grey's Anatomy has been renewed for a 22nd season officially. The news was revealed by ABC before the current Season 21 finale, which airs on May 15. Variety reports that the network announced the medical drama renewal as part of an overall update on a number of its highest-performing series,

Oh played the ambitious and brilliant Cristina Yang on the ABC series. Like Pompeo, she was an original cast member, but she left “Grey’s Anatomy” during season 10 in 2014. Pompeo, meanwhile, was a series regular until the season 19 premiere in 2023. She continues to make appearances on the show and serves as an executive producer.

Pompeo was there at the very beginning of "Grey's Anatomy" when the show first premiered in 2005. During the Season 19 midseason finale in November 2022, her character announced her decision to relocate her family to Boston. A few months prior, Variety reported that Pompeo was only going to appear in eight episodes that season.
