JCAHO has stated that these Patient Safety Goals are only the start of its direct initiative to address medical errors -- it plans to issue additional goals and recommendations each year.
As of January 1, 2003, US health care organizations (HCOs) seeking to obtain or maintain accreditation will be required to comply with new patient safety goals designed to prevent medical errors.
