Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem did not rule out the possibility of using Guantanamo Bay in the Trump administration’s effort to combat illegal immigration, describing it as “an asset” that is being considered.

“It's been there for decades. So, we're just going to expand upon the existing migrant center,” Homan said. The base has been used in the past to house Cuban and Haitian migrants and there is a small facility on the Naval base at Guantanamo known as the Migrant Operations Center.

Trump provided few details but said it would house "the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people." He announced the move during a bill signing ceremony at the White House for the Laken Riley Act,
