The Mackinac Bridge reopened to semi-trucks, motor homes and other vulnerable vehicles Monday evening after high winds restricted traffic for much of the day.

Only passenger cars, passenger vans and empty pickup trucks are allowed to cross the suspension bridge between the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan today, according an update to bridge conditions from the Mackinac Bridge Authority. Winds are blowing across the bridge surface at 50-64 mph.

Winds of over 50 mph Monday resulted in a partial closure of the Mackinac Bridge, the bridge authority reported.

Mackinac Bridge partially closed due to high winds, only allowing cars, vans, and empty trucks to cross with reduced speed.

Only passenger cars, passenger vans and empty pickup trucks are allowed on the bridge, the Mackinac Bridge Authority said. Wind speeds in the Straits area have reached 64 mph. Those driving on the bridge must drive at 20 mph or below and should be aware of strong winds blowing across the bridge.
