The Roper River runs east for 400 kilometers from the Katherine region to the Gulf of Carpentaria. First Nations people comprise 73% of the population in the Roper River area.

Martuwarra, or the Fitzroy River, runs through Western Australia’s Kimberley region. It is the state’s largest Aboriginal Cultural Heritage site and is on the national heritage list .
