SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - You may have received a new Medicare card with a new ID number in the mail. On Your Side received a few emails from concerned viewers who thought it was a scam.

Your Medicare card contains a unique number exclusive to you proving whether you have Medicare Part A (hospital) or Part B (medical). Your number is separate to your Social Security number.

The new Medicare cards no longer contain a person’s Social Security number, but rather a unique, randomly assigned Medicare number that protects recipients’ identities, the agency said.
