Sony is behind the new adaptation, which is not a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1997 film, but rather will go back to the 1959 novel as source material.

Neill Blomkamp is doing his part. The “District 9” and “Chappie” filmmaker is attached to write and direct a new film adaptation of “Starship Troopers,” the 1959 sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein that was memorably brought to theaters by director Paul Verhoeven with the 1997 satirical spectacle of the same name.

Director Neill Blomkamp scored a hit with 2009's District 9, but also has a track record of unrealized sci-fi projects.
