Built in 1904 for the St. Louis World Fair, The Wanamaker Organ is a National Historic Landmark. Considered the largest fully-functioning organ in the world, it’s composed of more than 28,000 pipes, which are stored in various parts of the building.

The enormous instrument — 28,750 pipes, 287 tons and snaked throughout the building — isn’t going anywhere. But Macy’s is, closing its showpiece store at 13th and Market Streets for good Sunday.

The iconic organ is protected, but questions about its future remain as Macy's prepares to close its Center City Philadelphia store.
