An earlier shuttle, Enterprise, was used for early testing and then disassembled. Icons of space flight they undoubtedly are, but the shuttle programme has been marked by very public tragedy.
In 1977, the United Kingdom's King Charles III, a prince at the time, met with NASA astronauts Fred Haise, Gordon Fullerton, Richard H. Truly and Joe Engle, the crew of the Space Shuttle Enterprise.
