On Wednesday as lakhs lined up to take a dip in the Ganga River at Mahakumbh, a stampede-like situation occurred, killing at least 15 devotees.

Amrit Snan' -- the traditional bathing ritual of akharas that was kept on hold due to the stampede, has been resumed. Led by Mahant Ravindra Puri, head of the Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad, the procession of akharas made its way on foot towards the Sangam for the Snan.

Maha Kumbh Deputy Inspector in General (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna on Wednesday said that situations had brought in control while Juna Akhara along with two other Akharas would be going for Amrit Snan at Triveni Sangam of the Mahakumbh Mela.

The DIG Mahakumbh stated that arrangements are now in place, and the ‘Amrit Snan’ will continue as planned. Despite the tragedy, millions of devotees are expected to continue participating in the festival, which spans from January 12 to February 26.

Amid a stampede-like situation at Maha Kumbh, authorities stated that peace was restored as Juna Akhara and two others prepared for the Amrit Snan. Injuries sustained during the chaos were minor, and thousands still participated in the holy dip at Triveni Sangam on Mauni Amavasya.

Each Akhara has been allotted 40 minutes at the sacred waters, with the entire first procession completing the ritual and returning to their camps by 8.30 am.

Following the stampede, the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad said that the seers have called off their Mauni Amavasya's Amrit Snan. Jagatguru Rambhadracharya also appealed to devotees to take the holy dip at the nearest ghat on the Ganga and not come to the Sangam Nose.
