Astro Bot was an immense success for PlayStation, but will its influence inspire a new wave of platformer games?

Nicholas Doucet said that “Astro Bot” is an action game for the PlayStation 5 in which you go on an adventure with a little robot called Astro. Across the journey you take, you have to rescue Astro’s crew of little robots.

Well before Astro Bot’s time, Spyro was one of the tentpoles of the PlayStation dynasty, right up there with Crash Bandicoot. Sadly, unlike Crash, Spyro hasn’t gotten a proper game in a hot minute.

The attention to detail extends to the packaging too. Each figure comes in a UV Premium Plastic protector and sports a special "Game of the Year 2024" badge. Sure, the $25 price tag is a bit steeper than your typical Funko, but then again, this isn't your typical release.

Just a few days later, the release of Astro Bot was a huge success. As the game was met with resounding praise, this was a reminder to leaders in the industry that players and critics alike have made it clear what they want to see more of and what needs to go away as the future of gaming takes shape.
