The Railway Ministry has announced ex gratia payments of Rs 1.5 lakh for the deceased, Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured, and Rs 5,000 for minor injuries. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has pledged Rs 5 lakh for each victim’s family and full medical expense coverage for the injured.

At least 12 passengers died on Wednesday evening in North Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district when they tried to jump down from the Pushpak Express. The people on board panicked due to a rumour about a fire in the train and jumped down,

The incident occurred after the passengers, who were travelling on the Pushpak Express, exited their coaches, due to suspicions of a fire in the train.
