Airbnb said Wednesday that it is teaming up with 211 LA on a free temporary housing initiative in response to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

As tens of thousands seek shelter from the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, the short-term rental site Airbnb has made free rooms available to evacuees and major hotels are extending discounted rates to displaced residents.

In these cases, hosts and guests can cancel eligible stays without consequence and receive full refunds (or partial refunds for trips that have already started and require guests to evacuate before their official check-out time). Airbnb will work with 211 LA to identify residents in need of temporary housing and connect them to accommodations offered through Airbnb.org, the company’s non-profit arm which provides free stays through funds from the company and hosts who offer up their homes during disaster situations.
