The team's captain suffered an apparent right leg injury Tuesday when he was slew-footed by Nashville rookie forward Zachary L'Heureux and rammed feet-first into the boards.

Chasing a puck to the left of Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson, Spurgeon was tripped from behind into the end boards by Predators rookie Zach L’Heureux. The Wild defenseman went legs-first into the wall and landed awkwardly. He required assistance to get off the ice.

Coach John Hynes called it a “cheap hit” and “undisciplined” play, but didn’t have an official update on Spurgeon after the game. The NHL Department of Player Safety will surely look at the hit, which drew L’Heureux a match penalty. “It didn’t look good,” Hynes said.
