THE Met Office has named the latest storm of the season with 80mph gusts and heavy rain on the cards. Storm Éowyn is forecast to bring powerful winds to much of the UK on Friday and into Saturday,

The Met Office has issued several warnings for wind, snow and rain across the whole of the UK as Storm Éowyn is expected to cause widespread disruption on Friday and Saturday

Storm Éowyn is forecast to make landfall in Ireland late on Thursday before moving on to the rest of the UK on Friday according to Met Office models. The storm will bring gusts of 80mph to coastal areas and 60mph inland with potential for a danger to life caused by flying debris.

But as Storm Éowyn starts to sweep in from the west in the early hours of Friday, parts of Northern Ireland will see snowfall, especially Londonderry and Omagh. By 3am, the snow will reach parts of central and southern Scotland, moving north east through the country as the weather front continues to move.

The Met Office said the newly-named Storm Éowyn could bring powerful gusts to exposed coasts in Northern Ireland, northern England, northwestern Wales and western Scotland.
