As of Friday, Jan. 17, Alabama ranks as the nation’s No. 8 team according to ESPN’s BPI metric, which is the third-highest of any SEC team. The only two programs above Alabama are No. 3 Auburn and No. 4 Tennessee, while Kentucky currently ranks as the No. 17 team according to the metric.

Dating back to the early-1900’s, Kentucky owns a 114-40 advantage all-time head-to-head, which includes a dominant 57-10 advantage in Lexington. As for recent years, Kentucky has six of the last 10 meetings, which includes a 117-95 victory in Lexington a year ago.

Kentucky Wildcats and Alabama Crimson Tide are set to face off on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at noon EST at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Alabama is coming off a home loss Tuesday night to Ole Miss, while Kentucky won its matchup at home against Texas A&M.

“Alabama right now is, of course, they’ve always been so potent, demanding shooting guards’ space, their pace is elite, ” Pope said. “I don’t know if the metrics change every but they are one of the fastest-playing teams in the country.”

The game figures to be a high-scoring affair with a lot of three-point shots taken. Alabama leads the nation in scoring, averaging 89.5 points per game, while Kentucky is third in the country, scoring 88.7 points per contest. The Crimson Tide shoot 31.2 three-point shots per game, while the Cats hoist 27.7 attempts per game from behind the arc.
