The Tampa Bay Lightning were back to playing a well-rounded defensive game on Monday night at Amalie Arena, where they hosted the Philadelphia Flyers.

Nikita Kucherov had a goal and an assist for the Lightning (39-23-5), who won their second in a row and pulled within two points of the Florida Panthers for first place in the Atlantic Division with a game in hand. Tampa Bay lost to Philadelphia 4-3 in a shootout on Thursday.

Though the Lightning committed far too many turnovers for head coach Jon Cooper’s liking, Jake Guentzel scored an insurance into an empty net, goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy posted his fifth shutout of the season and the Lightning improved to 31-1-1 when leading after two periods.
