American Airlines on Monday sued JetBlue Airways in the Business Court of Texas to recover funds that JetBlue allegedly owes from the failed Northeast Alliance partnership effort.

Citing "three industry sources familiar with the matter," Reuters reported Tuesday night that any deal between JetBlue and United would be different from the Northeast Alliance because the two wouldn't coordinate on scheduling and pricing. It would allow travelers "to earn and burn frequent-flier miles."

American Airlines ended partnership talks with JetBlue and sued them for money owed from a failed alliance. The carriers were trying to negotiate an agreement after courts blocked their Northeast Alliance in 2023 for antitrust reasons.
