Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, opened higher on Thursday, breaking a six-day losing streak, driven by gains in banking and financial stocks as investors responded to domestic inflation data suggesting a potential rate cut.
The Nifty 50 ended 13.85 points or 0.06% down at 23,031.40, and the Sensex closed 32.11 points or 0.04% lower at 76,138.97.
Among the 13 major sectoral indices Nifty Metal, Pharma, Realty, and Media were the top gainers over 1-2 percent.
Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Zomato were the biggest gainers.
