Correction officers and others gathered across the street from the state prison to demonstrate against what they call unsafe working conditions.

A large number of corrections officers are holding a demonstration outside of the Elmira Correctional Facility, which started early Monday morning.

At both facilities, staff chose not to enter for their work shifts as a result of their discontentment with current working conditions,” The New York State Corrections Officers and Police Benevolent Association stated.

Staff at Collins and Elmira Correctional Facilities have refused to enter the facility for their shifts, citing dissatisfaction with current working conditions.

Some prison staff did not enter the Collins facility for their shift on Monday, according to the union for correctional officers.

Several corrections officers are striking outside of Collins Correctional Facility Monday morning. According to a report from WIVB, the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association says the job action “was not in any way sanctioned by NYSCOPBA.

The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association has acknowledged that some staff members at both Collins and Elmira Correctional facilities "refused to enter the facility."
