Females are more difficult to tell apart, so look closely at their faces: Purple finches have a bolder face pattern, with two white stripes stretching ... lot of red on the head.

The attractive Cassin’s finch of the montane ... wide eyebrow and submoustachial stripe are both pale pink. The light pink throat and breast blends into the white on the lower belly.
