Clive Revill, the London and Broadway stage actor who originally voiced Emperor Palpatine in "The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980, died in a care facility in California.

Revill provided the voice for the evil Palpatine in “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back,” which was released in 1980. Palpatine was physically played by another actor in the film. Revill’s voice was replaced in subsequent Star Wars movies and in the rereleases of “The Empire Strikes Back” over the years.
