Bankrupt Purdue Pharma LP and its owners have agreed to over $7 billion settlement to resolve lawsuits over OxyContin's role in the opioid epidemic. The deal follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s rejection of a $6 billion agreement last year.

Purdue Pharma LP’s Sackler family owners have joined a proposed settlement that would allow the OxyContin maker to exit bankruptcy and put more than $6 billion toward resolving opioid-related litigation,

The Sackler family agreed to give up ownership of the company that manufactures the powerful opioid. A previous deal was rejected by the Supreme Court.
