Myanmar on Monday declared a week-long mourning period following a 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Friday, which has left more than 2,000 people dead and around 3,900 injured as of press time on Monday.

Emergency aid has streamed into Southeast Asia in the two days since a massive earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand.

While China, Russia and other nations have rushed emergency response teams to the devastated country, the U.S., once a leader in foreign aid, has been slow to act.
