People are trapped in a block of flats without running water, as heavy rain caused flooding and travel chaos across the North West. Helen Scott, who lives in a flat inside a converted mill in Stockport, said the car park and first floor of the property was almost totally submerged.

A new amber weather warning for heavy rain has been put in place for New Year’s Day. The rare alert has been put into force by the Met Office from 8pm on New Year’s Eve until 9am on Wednesday. Over 130 flood warnings are also in place across the UK,

It comes as events celebrating the arrival of 2025 were cancelled following a rare amber alert, with more than 150 flood warnings issued nationwide.

THE Met Office is warning of possible flooding in Bradford and surrounding areas over the New Year period. The organisation has issued a yellow weather alert for rain covering West Yorkshire. It will start at 3pm on New Year's Eve and end at 11am on New Year's Day.
