Guatemala is preparing to receive deported migrants from the U.S. ahead of President-elect Trump's return to office next year, when he's promised to begin mass deportations.

Guatemala said it was open to receiving migrants deported from the US as the country attempts to bolster ties with the incoming American administration. “There has to be a regional response,” a Guatemalan official told Reuters.

Guatemala said it is open to engaging in a "constructive and respectful dialogue" with the new administration of incoming U.S. President Donald Trump, though no agreement has been made on accepting deported migrants.
