The grand master of the Knights Templar was the supreme commander of the holy order, starting with founder Hugues de Payens. Some held the office for life while others resigned life in monasteries or diplomacy.

I want to thank you for your confidence in electing me as your 167th Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Wisconsin. The journey for me started this month 32 years ago when I joined the Order of DeMolay at Sir Galahad Chapter in Burlington, WI.

Guillaume de Beaujeu was the twenty-first Grand Master of the Knights Templar and the last to preside in the Holy Land. He was elected in 1273, on the death of Thomas Berard. Guillaume had been a long serving Templar Knight.
