Jul 14, 2023 · In Black Butler, the "punchline" sees Sebastian trample over Grell or reject her in some sort of brutal way. I think most characters reacted negatively to grell because it was part of the comedy, and not necessarily for the sake of historical accuracy.

SO I cant help head cannon Anime (at least dub) Grell as Genderfluid but the Manga universe Grell is absolutely a woman. This is coming from someone who is gender fluid, so it could just be me projecting slightly and it has been a while

Jan 20, 2023 · Im kinda a newbie with the black butler fandom in general, however I read some old debates about Grell's gender and how it became a controversial thing in the community uptill now (tho tbh not as big nowadays seemingly). Yet all of that seems to happen in the western side of the community and not so much in the Japanese side.

Mar 11, 2020 · Grell is an okama, it was confirmed by Yana herself, Grell calls themselves an okama in the JP version of the manga.They refer themselves as a lady and use female pronouns because of something called "onee kotoba", the dialect okama use.

Aug 15, 2023 · Grell does not show up in the Public School Arc. The only Shinigami that appears is Undertaker. This is the one reason that I'm not extremely thrilled they are making this season from the Public School Arc. I hope that they do the Green Witch Arc. That has Grell, William, the German Shinigami, and it makes Eric and Alan Manga canon.

Anything regarding Grell being a trans woman mostly (as far as I know) is in the manga. Most people are referring to Grell's Confessional because the highlighted text "The self-declared lady", "I'm a lady so it's not very ladylike or cute to use harsh words right!", and the one that really seals the deal when asked 'Right now what are you most dissatisfied with?

Jun 7, 2022 · “Grell is an okama which means he is a gay man”- okama can refer to trans women. “Grell’s style of speech in Japanese (onee kotoba) proves XYZ about his gender”- onee kotoba is a stereotype of queer characters in Japanese media. Her usage of it says very little about her being either an effeminate man or a trans woman.
