Jun 19, 2023 · Diontae had 16 red zone targets to Pickens 7 last year. The idea that Diontae is not due for positive regression, or that Pickett favors Pickens in this area is incorrect. Diontae had 147 targets last year good for 7th best in the league. He is an an elite route runner that demands looks not matter who is playing QB.

Diontae for Palmer and an early 3rd. With Allen and Williams gone, I figure Palmer has a good shot and a nice role. He did nicely last year when the others were out.

Diontae Johnson is known for two things. Always being open. Being horrendously inefficient with his targets, which come roughly 6 inches down the field. Last year, the Panthers were an abject disaster, with the sole bright spot being Adam Thielen for those games at the start of the season before his ancient body turned to dust.

Sanders 2021: 163 touches, 0 TDs Sanders 2022: 279 touches, 11 TDs Diontae 2022: 93 touches, 0 TDs Diontae 2023: tbd You buy these guys low when they get a run of bad luck, the TDs will come back.

Evans is not a safe option with a high floor. Johnson is. I love Evans but he is more of a big play receiver who would put up a 6 pt game followed by a 30 point game. I am worried about him without Brady. He may very well put up 1k yards again, but it will probably be done in 9-10 games with a few bust weeks.

Oct 10, 2023 · The Steelers have a bye this week, but Johnson should return the following week against the Rams. Considering the Steelers offense is bottom 3 in the league, and George Pickens is currently Pickett’s top target, do we still feel like Diontae Johnson could be a WR2 or flex play when healthy?

Jun 21, 2024 · Johnson was brought in to be the top target and first read option in this offense. This seems clear based on the depth chart and has been confirmed by quotes from coaches and Johnson himself. This "lay up target" role propelled Adam Thielen to a WR17 finish last season after seeing 130+ targets.
